This story takes us deep into Oregon’s inner coastal ranges. My good friend Justin and I were traveling on the road from the American Southwest to the Pacific Northwest. After spending the night at Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area. We headed up to Oregon, weaving and winding through the mountains. After arriving in Medford we headed into the Applegate Valley. Losing Cell Service and getting excited, we found ourselves driving over a beautiful bridge and through Jackson, Oregon. Once at the Trailhead I packed up my Hyperlite and began walking a mile or so to camp. Justin had stayed back in Medford for a short stent of time. We communicated via Garmin Inreach and soon Justin came marching back into our site. To our surprise, we had, by stance, booked our site on opening day and had the entire place to ourselves! As the trail meanders around the forested Lake shore some trees have stairs carved in them that lead to rope swings. We also saw trash that had been left from last season’s campers. Needless to say, it felt like somewhere that people may not come to all that often. After some freeze-dried dinner, a campfire, and a very quiet night, it was time to head back to our Jeeps and back on the road. As Justin and I walked out, I took a video of Justin’s retro frame Jansport Pack standing out. Next stop, the rainforest! Jessica and I recently called in Shenandoah River State Park in Virginia, our store was quiet and reminded me of this special adventure!
